Many celebrities have openly explained how they stray away from their most iconic roles, and I think that’s silly. Think about it, the roles that helped put their name out there and lead to them getting other roles are the same ones they stray away from? Many celebrities will throw out explanations as to why they don’t like talking about it, but honestly it doesn’t cut it for me.
Some actors will say it is because they don’t want to be known for that sole role. This is a decent claim, but not that strong. Being known for a role shows just how well they portrayed the character and should be something the actors are proud of. When people mention their role, it should be an opportunity for them to interact with the fans and not try to devalue their role.
Take the Harry Potter cast. Many members have expressed that they don’t want anything to do with it and hate when people talk about it. Emma Watson, the woman who took the role as “Hermione Granger,” spoke about her fame while filming the franchise. During an interview for a Harry Potter cast reunion aired on HBO Max Watson expressed how during the role she felt “caged”. This is a solid point.
Many actors and actresses have to follow different required instructions like not cutting their hair or make drastic hair changes. Even though it can be a downside, many productions put this into place, so making that the reason they don’t want to associate with their iconic characters is not enough to try to stir conversations away from it.
On top of that, Watson has played another iconic role in the live action Beauty and the Beast playing Bell, and she mostly speaks positively about it. So, it’s okay to mention the downsides, but these actors should be proud of their role and not try to downgrade it.
Overall, celebrities should not be dogging on the role that got them places. They should think about the positives from playing an iconic role and not let some small things get to them.
