Major Ocean Current is at Risk Of Collapsing
Major Ocean Current is at Risk Of Collapsing
Maisy Johnson, Copy Editor • April 29, 2026

The Atlantic Meridional Ocean Circulation (AMOC), a system of currents that warm Europe, is at risk of collapsing in the near future. Global warming caused by excessive CO2 emissions has slowed the current down, and if it totally collapses, it could release massive amounts of carbon from deep in the ocean into the atmosphere, creating a loop that would only continue to warm the earth.  Previous research has already shown that if the AMOC were to collapse, it would disrupt monsoon patterns in Africa and Asia, cause record-setting cold winters across all of Europe and raise global temperatures.  However, new computer models predict additional disruptions from the shutdown of the current: the release of  640 billion tonnes of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. This massive amount of carbon emissions would increase global temperature by about 0.2°C. The AMOC is powered by differences in water density, and warms water from the Gulf of Mexico to the northern Atlantic Ocean. From...

Robot Runs Fastest Half-Marathon Showing the Progression of Robots
Zakaiya Adekunle, Opinion Editor • April 29, 2026

On the outskirts of Beijing, a speed competition is going on. Multiple contestants wait on the line to begin the 13 mile run also known as the half marathon. Spectators await on the sides, eager to see who will take the glory and get gold. What the people don’t know is that this race will set a new world record, but not by who most would think: Lightning, a robot created specifically for this race, beat the human half marathon record by over 5 minutes by running just over 50 minutes. This beats out Uganda's Jacob Kiplimo, who finished the same distance in about 57 minutes The marathon, Beijing...

The Hustle of Running a Rainbow Loom Business
The Hustle of Running a Rainbow Loom Business
Ginger Galemmo, Staff Writer • April 15, 2026

Before I became a senior going off to college, I was a young entrepreneur, running a hustle on the playground. It was my double life just as much as it was others. In fact, the competition was rough and always had a new product. If any first, second, or third grader owned a rainbow loom bracelet kit, then they were apart of the most powerful monopoly: the Rainbow Loom rubber bracelets.  As complicated as the rubber bracelet business was, the actual Rainbow Loom kits were beginner friendly, which explains its rise in popularity. One kit came with a hook, loom, pack of tiny rubber bands, and...

Clover & Bee Farm’s Sheep Gives Birth to More Babies than Expected
Morgan Leger, Staff Writer • April 29, 2026

The owners of Clover & Bee Farm in Underhill, Vermont were expecting some baby sheep, but not as many as they ended up having. Typically a sheep can carry and give birth to about one or two sheep, at a time. While other animals can have more, it is common for sheep to not have very many. Clover & Bee’s sheep in question has previously had quadruplets in her last pregnancy. So when she became pregnant again there was lots of speculation on how big of a pregnancy it could be. When their sheep was checked the results indicated that there were only two babies this time. The owners of Clover...

NBA Playoffs Begin With Uncertainty of Who Will Win
Shane Bates, Staff Writer • April 29, 2026

The NBA playoffs began last week on April 18th. In the league this year, it has been extremely competitive; not one team has seen to be too dominant over the rest. The favored team to year this year is the Oklahoma City Thunder. A young team who ended up winning the NBA Finals last season after Tyrese Haliburton tore his ACL in the beginning of game seven which ultimately lead to the Thunder winning lead by Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. The Dark Knight Review
The Dark Knight Review
Joseph Berkhouse, Social Media Coordinator • April 29, 2026

I just didn’t think it was that breathtaking. “The Dark Knight”, directed by Christopher Nolan, was a great movie; however, it comes in at number 3 all time on the IMDB top 100 which I just can’t get behind. Obviously, the story is great and includes amazing characters, but I just felt like I probably could pick out three movies I enjoyed more.  The good things were good, I love the plot and the performances by individual actors were phenomenal. Although it’s commonly raved about, the performance by Heath Ledger (rest in peace) as the Joker was brilliant and lived up to all of the...
