Federal Shutdown Nears Record Length as Political Divide Deepens
Federal Shutdown Nears Record Length as Political Divide Deepens
Maisy Johnson, Copy Editor • November 6, 2025

As of November 3rd, the American government was on its 34th day of a federal shutdown and on track to become the longest shutdown in US history. With no indication of ending soon, this shutdown will only continue to pose a threat to millions of Americans. A government shutdown occurs when Congress does not approve the federal budget for the upcoming year, usually due to disagreements.  When this happens, non-essential federal agencies, such as the Department of Education and the Federal Food and Drug Administration stop operating, since they get their funds from the discretionary budget. This...

Bowling Green Partners to Create Delivery Robots

One challenge at large universities is walking long distances across campus. Resident halls and dorms are usually placed near dining halls to make meals more accessible, but even then, walking to grab a quick coffee or snack can feel like a hassle. Many students prefer to stay focused on their studies rather than interrupting their workflow for food. With students’ needs in mind, Bowling Green State...

Counterproductive Hard Work
Counterproductive Hard Work
Ginger Galemmo, Staff Writer • November 6, 2025

It is said that hard work is never a bad trait because some of today’s most successful people are hard workers. Even so, there can be too much of anything. Hard workers can be too nice, too prepared, and even too hardworking. A strong work ethic is a great trait to have. However, those who don’t overdo it are often the most efficient. People who let work consume their free time may unknowingly...

App for That

Imagine an app that instantly creates believable excuses. “Excuse Generator Pro” would scan your schedule, your location, and the time of day, then give you the perfect out. Missed class? It was a family emergency. Late to practice? You saved a cat. This app would keep you just believable enough to survive high school guilt-free. Honesty is good, but sometimes creative storytelling deserves an A-plus too.

Fun Fact

Astronauts say space has a smell, and it is not what you would expect. After spacewalks, their suits carry the scent of burnt steak, hot metal, and welding fumes. Scientists think it happens because atoms vibrate at high energy after exposure to the vacuum. So if you ever wondered what the universe smells like, think “cosmic barbecue.” Just maybe do not try to bottle it for your next candle line.

The Over/Under

Everyone acts like sitting alone at lunch is a social tragedy. In reality, it is peaceful. You can eat at your own pace, scroll guilt-free, and not pretend to laugh at unfunny stories. Sometimes being alone just means you are comfortable with yourself. Plus, no one steals your fries. Eating solo does not mean lonely, it means lunch with the chillest person you know: you.
