Green High School is solely using a new hall pass system called ¨Smart Pass¨. Smart Pass allows students to create their own pass that will then get approved by their teacher. This new site gives students a time limit, so teachers can expect when their students will return back to the classroom. This is more convenient for teachers, along with students.
The new smart pass might look confusing to navigate but it’s not all difficult. Students are able to use a chromebook, go to google and search ¨SmartPass.app¨. When loading on to the software it will then ask for a username or email. After signing in, there are two options in the right hand corner: schedule a pass or create a pass. When clicking on either option it will ask for the time and date you want to make a pass for. Scheduling a pass allows students to send a pass request to teachers days in advance.
If the student does not come back within the time limit, it is then up to the teacher to decide what consequences will happen from there. This program gives each student three passes a day. After three passes are used, students need teachers’ permission to leave the room again.
Previous years at GHS, the only thing students needed was teacher approval, and then they had the go-ahead to freely roam the halls with their friends, wasting time and procrastinating their return back to the classroom. The previous ways of leaving the classroom gave students a sense of freedom; however, the smart pass will track when each student leaves and returns back to classrooms. This makes the school environment much safer, preventing hallway roamers.
In the long run, Smart Pass will leave a great impact on Green High School, keeping the hallways safer and limiting unnecessary student traffic.
