Senior captains from across the Federal League gathered Sept. 11 for Captains Day, an annual event held at the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton. Student leaders from Green, Jackson, GlenOak, Hoover, Perry, Lake and McKinley attended to represent their schools and sports programs.
Green High School girls varsity soccer captains, seniors Kelsey Rosen and her teammate, joined the event along with representatives from other fall sports. Students arrived at the Hall of Fame shortly after 8:30 a.m. and were welcomed with breakfast and event materials. Each participant received a $25 gift card for the Hall of Fame gift shop and a complimentary admission card valid through next year.
The day began with a keynote address from Mike Gallina, who spoke about leadership. His presentation emphasized the qualities of effective leaders, examples of poor leadership and the importance of building strong character both on and off the field.
Following the talk, students toured the Hall of Fame, exploring exhibits and the gift shop before returning to the main lecture room for the next session.
The second speaker was Walter Jones, a former lineman for the Seattle Seahawks and a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Jones engaged with students in a question-and-answer session, offering advice and insights from his professional career. Football players in particular took the opportunity to ask about his experiences on the field, though his comments applied broadly to leadership in sports.
Lunch was provided, featuring pizza, chips and drinks. Afterward, students returned to their buses and traveled back to their schools.
Attendees described the event as both enjoyable and educational, highlighting the opportunity to connect with peers from other schools while gaining new perspectives on leadership.
