This week’s teacher spotlight shows one of GHS’s dedicated science teachers, Stacy Cameron. She graduated from Perry High School in 2011 and went on to study at Miami University and the University of Mount Union. Now, she brings passion and positivity to the classroom everyday. She is in her tenth year teaching and teaches Biology and Ecology. She loves to teach these courses because of her enthusiasm for science, mainly genetics and DNA, her favorite subjects to teach.
For her, teaching is not solely about labs, worksheets, and homework, it is about the relationships and lifestyle of being a teacher.
“I like the lifestyle of teaching, working during the day, having summers off to travel, and spending time doing what I love.” she said.
Staying close to home was also important to her. She grew up in Stark County so she wanted to stick close with finding a career, and stay away from moving to a big city.
If she was not a teacher, she can see herself being a genetic counselor. This job still revolves around biology, but helps families with genetic conditions. Other than being in the class room, Miss. Cameron is an outstanding runner. Back in high school she competed in cross country.
One of her favorite memories from teaching shows the bonds she created with her students. A little bit ago she was surprised by a group of her students with a basket of treats and notes while she was going through a tough time in her personal life.
“It was the sweetest thing, it reminded me that just as we care for our students, they care about us too,” she explained.
Her dedication to teaching at GHS makes an impact on the students around her. She creates a classroom full of laughter along with learning. Miss. Cameron will leave a lasting impact on all of her students.
