Wars have been going on for centuries. The Middle East contains around 17 to 18 countries. Due to the close proximity of so many countries it is common for disputes that lead to wars to happen in the Middle East.
A major war that began more than a century ago is between Israel and Palestinians. The ongoing clash between the two groups is one of the longest and most violent conflicts in the world.
In 1948, tensions began when the UK, who had control over Palestine due to their victory in World War One, established a part of Palestine to be Jewish. Then in 1967, a war broke out known as the Six-Day War. After this war, Israel had captured Gaza from Egypt. Now the ongoing conflict is focused on Gaza.
Before the War in Gaza, the strip was known to be poor and lacked employment. After the war the Gaza strip was put under full military rule by Israel. Those people in Gaza were Palestinians.
An organization named Hamas was elected to rule the Palestinians in Gaza in 2006. In response to Hamas’s controlling rule, Israel and Egypt decided to set up a blockade which decided what could enter and exit the territory of Gaza which created major conflict and the start of something even larger.
According to BBCNews, “On 7 October 2023, Hamas fighters launched an assault from Gaza, killing about 1,200 people in Israel and taking 251 hostages.”
In this month of October 2025, Donald J. Trump, the president of the United States of America, issued a peace agreement with Hamas and the Israeli government. Hamas released all 20 of the remaining Israeli hostages that stayed alive and Israel released Palestinian Prisoners.
Trump traveled to Israel where he and other world leaders signed a plan to end the war in Gaza. The peace declaration says that Trump will give his “sincere efforts to end the war in Gaza,” and calls for “peace, security, stability, and opportunity for all peoples of the region, including both Palestinians and Israelis.”
