Australian musician Kevin Parker, known by his stage name Tame Impala, has officially released his fifth studio album, Deadbeat, on Oct. 17, 2025. The album marks his first in five years since The Slow Rush and introduces a new electronic direction that still retains his signature psychedelic style.
While the name Tame Impala may not be familiar to everyone, his hit song “The Less I Know the Better” has over 2 billion streams on Spotify and has appeared in several films and television shows, including Apple TV’s The Afterparty. Parker’s sound is often described as dreamy and rhythmic, featuring layered vocals, groovy basslines and melodic, spacey production.
Deadbeat features 12 tracks, including three singles, and runs just under an hour. The first single, “End of Summer,” dropped in late July, followed by “Loser” and “Dracula” in September. “Dracula,” the most recent release, quickly became a fan favorite and earned Parker his first-ever appearance on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
Critics have praised the album as experimental yet cohesive, maintaining the recognizable sound that made Tame Impala a global favorite. “I don’t know how this man continues to make banger after banger,” said junior Olivia Fiehn. “He needs to be our president because this just sent me into another dimension.”
Since his debut album InnerSpeaker, Parker has continued to redefine modern psychedelic pop. Deadbeat highlights his growth as both a producer and songwriter, blending dance-floor-ready beats with introspective lyrics. Standout deep cuts include “My Old Ways,” which reflects on personal change, and “Piece of Heaven,” which fuses modern synth textures with a nostalgic 1980s sound.
Overall, Deadbeat feels like a new creative chapter for Tame Impala — one that balances experimentation with familiarity. Whether listeners are longtime fans or newcomers, Parker’s latest project reaffirms his position as one of the most innovative artists in contemporary music.
