On October 1, 2022, the fourth annual Twisted Wilderfest was held in collaboration with the Green Arts Council, Twisted Olive Restaurant, and WKDD, located at Southgate Park. This pop-up festival had activities from arts and crafts to music and food that were fun for the entire family.

In Our Town Newsletter, Valerie Wax Carr, Director of Public Service for the City of Green, says, “We’re celebrating nature and makers at this family-friendly community event.”

The event featured food vendors including Chick-fil-A, D & M Grille, John’s Gyro King, LeMacaron French Pastries, OG Street Eatz, Southern Thangs, and True Roots BBG. The arts and crafts vendors sold everything from ceramics, jewelry, lotions, and soaps to specialty foods, photography, and clothing, alongside numerous unique crafts. A lot of the activities were very kid-friendly. Carr mentioned the entertainment at the festival was geared toward children. They had performers like Story Time by Miss Brandie and kids’ activities sponsored by KinderCare, a local kids’ daycare.

“This year, we’re happy to announce that the very popular hayride is back at Wilderfest,” Carr said.

Visitors boarded the hayride to admire the pumpkin patch where the city has grown over 1,000 pumpkins, and they were welcome to purchase one to take home. A Jack-O-Lantern hike was also part of the Wilderfest. The pumpkins that the children had decorated were lit up and lined down the path as a way to show off the kids’ creations.

At the festival, people also observed the city’s history. Families were welcome to tour the Lichtenwalter Historic School House, a one-room schoolhouse constructed in 1885 that was rebuilt to its specifications following a devastating fire in 2016. It is now fully restored and ready for visitors.
