The Green Boys Varsity Soccer team currently holds a record of 5-10-3 and a Federal League record of 3-3. This year’s team is built of many new varsity players and even some freshmen.
After losing 12 seniors and gaining new coaches, the team holds an original dynamic. Matthew Silvidi ‘24, team captain, adapts to the new team changes through his team leadership.
“After losing so many key players, our team became very inexperienced compared to other varsity programs. Fortunately, the underclassmen have stepped up creating a bright future,” Silvidi said.
The team works diligently when preparing for their upcoming games. Whether this is by watching film, extensive practices, or the overall relationship between teammates, the boys’ soccer team is ready to take the field on game day.
“Everyone in the Federal League is tough competition. No game is a given. To prepare for these games, we watch film and create scenarios we will see in the games” Silvidi said.
Furthermore, the underclassmen act as the backbone of the team. There are several freshmen and sophomores who have the opportunity to play on varsity so early on in their high school career. The loss of multiple seniors didn’t go unnoticed, but the strength brought by the underclassman is able to bring back some of the team’s momentum from last season.
“It feels great. I am confident and humble to be playing varsity as a freshman and work towards the huge achievement of being a four-year letterman,” first-year varsity player, Kellen Snee ‘27 said.
The team has worked as a family all year. With playoffs coming around, their strength as a whole will definitely be shown.
“The season has gone surprisingly really well. I would have thought that with new coaches it would have taken the team a couple of months to get used to the coaches and environment, but it only took a couple weeks” Snee said.
The Green Boys soccer team receives lots of support from the community, families, and other teams. Whether they win or lose, there is always a crowd cheering them on. They have had a great regular season and will carry that momentum into the playoffs.
