Sublime Sub Shops with Gearhart and Bialek
Subway: Gearhart
Subway has been my go-to spot for years because of one thing: the perfect sandwich – a six-inch on Italian Herb & Cheese bread with turkey, American cheese, lettuce, black olives, and ranch. The aroma of freshly baked bread hits me as I enter, and the friendly staff always greets me with a smile. What sets Subway apart is the heavenly taste of the Italian herb and cheese bread, making every bite exceptional. My only complaint? They’re often out of macadamia nut cookies, causing a slight disappointment. Despite that, I’d give Subway 4.87 stars.
Subway: Bialek
Subway, in my opinion, serves the best subs around. My go-to order is a six-inch Italian B.M.T on Italian bread with provolone cheese, lettuce, pickles, green peppers, mayo, and vinegar and oil. I pair it with a chocolate chip cookie for the perfect sweet and savory combo. The service is excellent and quick which is essential for getting food in a hurry. However, my only complaint is the inconsistency in ingredient proportions. Sometimes there’s too much mayo or lettuce, which drops my rating from 5 stars to 4.5. Despite this, Subway remains my classic go-to sub shop.
Jimmy Johns: Gearhart-
Jimmy John’s embodies my childhood memories, a quick and reliable choice during hectic days filled with activities. Its defining feature? Speed. Waiting for more than a minute for a sub? That’s unheard of at Jimmy John’s. However, when it comes to taste, it doesn’t quite reach the heights of Subway, especially because Subway’s Italian Herb & Cheese bread is a flavor experience I find hard to beat. Jimmy John’s does offer options like healthy lettuce wraps and uses freshly baked bread daily, but Subway’s extensive variety with its five bread options gives it an edge. Despite this, Jimmy John’s subs evoke a powerful sense of nostalgia for me and my childhood. For this sentimental value, I rate Jimmy John’s at 3.5 stars.
Jimmy Johns: Bialek–
Without fail, I always get a Turkey Tom with no tomato, add provolone cheese, mayo, pickles, oil and vinegar. The thing that sets Jimmy Johns apart from other sub places is the bread. Despite this, there is one thing that knocks Jimmy John’s rating down: online ordering. I cannot count the number of times I have tried to order online or mobile order Jimmy Johns just for them to decline my card! I know I have money on there or else I’d be going home to eat. I don’t believe it’s the universe telling me I don’t need a sub; I think it’s Jimmy Johns wanting to piss me off. Overall, in comparison to Subway, I give Jimmy Johns a 3.5 out of 5 stars.
Jersey Mikes: Gearhart-
When thinking of a well-rounded sub, I think of Jersey Mike’s. I usually order the #7, which is made with turkey, provolone cheese, and lettuce. This sub may sound basic on its own, but when you order the sub “Mike’s Way,” it’s like infusing the thing with crack. For those of you who don’t know, “Mike’s Way” is when the employees put oil, vinegar, and various spices on the sandwich. The employees are always kind, but it takes them forever to make one sub. I’ve waited for 25 minutes for my sandwich before, which is ridiculous considering that it is a “fast food” restaurant. Jersey mikes also sells David’s Cookies, which is just a plain chocolate chunk cookie, but one of the best cookies I have ever put in my mouth. David’s Cookies are also always available, unlike the macadamia nut cookie at Subway. With all things considered, I give Jersey Mike’s 4.3 stars.
Jersey Mikes: Bialek-
Out of the three sub places on this list, Jersey Mike’s is by far the worst. I have tried a numerous number of sandwiches from here trying to find the perfect combination, but nothing has worked. I have sampled sandwiches like #7 Turkey and provolone, #13 the Original Italian, and #2 the Jersey Shore’s Favorite. My mom always says it takes three times of eating something to decide whether or not you actually like it; I’ve been more than generous with Jersey Mike’s. Not to mention if you order online, your sandwich is bound to be soggy. This combined with their very sub-par chip selection leaves me with my sad rating of 2 stars. Sorry Jersey Mike’s, but do better.
