Green High School has something called the Flex pass which allows students to check in and out of school during the day (juniors and seniors). But, some may say that this pass needs to come to an end. They say that it’s too dangerous for kids to leave multiple times during the school day. The tardies are always high and they might come down if we just end the flex and people know the exact school schedule and when they need to be here 7-2:35.
The Flex pass does have some good qualities; it gives good kids a form of independence because you have to earn your Flex pass. Get good grades, don’t be late to school, don’t have disciplinary issues. Students should be eligible to earn their flex pass. I do think it was a great idea to create the Flex pass but my opinion still states that it is making a little problem with kids. The Flex is unfair to freshmen and sophomores who have to go through the entirety of the school day.
Flex passes also should end in Green High School because of all of the parking lot accident incidents going on. Let’s be honest, high schoolers aren’t always the best drivers, especially sophomores (who don’t even have flexes). New drivers at 17 and seniors aren’t always the best drivers, it’s not their fault they just aren’t as experienced as others there are teachers in GHS who admit they don’t’ make the best decisions when driving sometimes but these bad decisions that happen multiple times in a school day is not ok and very dangerous for students well being. To be honest, we don’t even need a flex in the first place when we have been going to school for seven hours a day for eleven or twelve years. Just wait until your time is us and students can leave school and never come back. I do appreciate our school trying to incentivize students to do better in school to earn the flex pass because you do earn it. It’s just there are so many ways you could do to get students to be better in school. Homework free cards, free snacks from the cafeteria and all of these different things but having a kid leave for 45 minutes in a day and then coming back is just pointless to me.
“ It goes back to requirements for graduation in terms of numbers of hours instead of day and if a kid gets into a car accident in the middle of the day sends liability concerns to people.” M.r Thacker, Sociology and American history teacher.
