It has been fairly noticeable that the New York Times (NYT) games are slowly declining in quality. Whether it be due to the fact that the creators are running out of ideas or are just growing lazy, the games the past few weeks have been lackluster. This theory can be applied to several of the NYT games including Connections, Wordle, and the Mini Crossword where the hints have been either confusing or mindless. For example, most recently on Feb. 23, 2024, the Mini Crossword presented players with the hint, “Fittingly, it shares the same first two letters with slow and slimy” leading players to play a guessing game to determine which one out of 28 words containing four letters and beginning with “sl” is the correct answer (thankfully the across hints were decent enough for this hint to not throw off the time of completion by too much).
