When it comes to sororities, the south doesn’t hold back. Alabama Rush, best known as Bama Rush, holds great popularity on social media. Tiktok or Rushtok captures the elegance and the price that comes with rushing.
The honor of becoming a sorority member in Bama Rush doesn’t come easily. There is a long process to sign up as well as a long choosing process. Here is the general process:
To begin: registration. Potential New Members (PNMs) have to register over the summer for the upcoming fall semester. Some things that they are required to submit are photos of themselves, high school transcripts and recommendation letters.
Next, new members are required to attend an orientation. The rules and schedule of their rush week are explained during this convocation.
Then, they proceed to a recruitment process separated into rounds. Round one begins with an open house where the students can tour houses, converse with previous or current sorority members, and the PNMs get the chance to rank the houses. The houses continue with making cuts based on their standards for each house.
The next few rounds are what are known as the Philanthropy Round and the Sisterhood round. In these two rounds, PNMs return to a few houses where they draw a closer bond with returning rush members.
Finally, the day everyone waits for arrives. Bid Day! Bid day is where the PMNs gather to reveal what house bid on them by a ceremonial unboxing of their envelopes.
While all of that sounds exciting to some, there is a major price to pay. Literally. Registration alone costs around $400. Sorority housing costs nearly $10,000,and outfits on the other hand are beyond expensive. Some of the most expensive tiktok rush inflicted outfits have cost over $22,000.
Sororities are a private thing. Most houses in this matter steer away from bidding on people who have a large following on social media. Many Tiktokers have had to withdraw from the sorority life due to their very public life. Tiktok is an easy way to access more information revolving around Bama Rush and what truly plays into it.
