This week’s staff spotlight shines on one of Green High School’s most unforgettable teachers, Ms. Starkey. She has been teaching math at GHS for more than 11 years and graduated from Ball State University. Before joining Green, she taught at several other schools, including Stark State College, Walsh University and the University of Akron.
When asked what inspired her to become a teacher, she said, “I had a great teacher, and it’s always been something I’ve wanted to do.” She enjoys teaching math because of its logic and structure, and she believes that while it can be difficult, it helps students develop important problem-solving skills for life beyond school.
If she were not teaching math, Ms. Starkey said she would likely be an accountant. During her own high school years, she was very involved in extracurricular activities, serving as a cheerleader, a track athlete and a member of student council.
When asked about her most memorable moments, she said, “When my students clapped for me at the end of the school year. And there are definitely memorable students.”
Ms. Starkey’s enthusiasm for math and dedication to her students make her a beloved part of the GHS community. She is known not only for her teaching ability but also for her kindness and patience in the classroom. Her commitment to helping students learn and succeed ensures that she will leave a lasting impression for years to come.
