The Celebration of Education will take place on Saturday, Feb. 25, 2023 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m at Green High School. A pancake breakfast will be served at 7:30 a.m. to kick off the celebration. Along with that, the JROTC Color Guard will perform a flag raising ceremony. There will be numerous activities for the community to enjoy: a student art display, a mini cheer clinic, face painting, a book fair, the Laws of Life essay contest reception, and more.
“A very popular event is the 3rd grade musical, performed at 9 and 11 in the auditorium. While not yet solidified, small group band and choir performances will also take place,” Julie McMahan, Celebration of Education event chairperson, said.
Each GLSD building is involved to demonstrate the success and talent of Green schools to the community.
“The Foundation supports, promotes and recognizes academic achievements for all staff and students in the district,” McMahan said.
Additionally, the JROTC Booster Club will run a concession stand during lunchtime. A team of student liaisons also work with the Green Schools Foundation to help with the event. The CoE is funded by local vendors who contribute to the different levels of the Pay-to-Participate fee.
All proceeds from the event will go towards the GSF so they can support its many programs: academic scholarships, the PBIS initiative, Laws of Life, ROX, classroom grants, book club for GPS and Greenwood, the Academy of Scholars for GHS and GMS, Little Free Library, and Spotlight on Staff.
The Celebration of Education is an annual event sponsored by the Green Schools Foundation that has gone on for nearly 20 years. While there was a 2-year pause on the event due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Foundation expects the event to run just like before.
“After a two year hiatus, it has been difficult securing businesses for sponsorships due to budget cuts and employee shortages,” McMahan said.
For those interested in participating in the event – clubs, local businesses, etc. – please contact Julie McMahan at [email protected] , 330-896-7512 or 330-618-3620.
“This event is a tremendous amount of work for all involved with a lot of moving parts. But, it is like a gift to our community with a tremendous opportunity for our district to shine,” McMahan said. “There is something for everyone, and the money raised goes directly into supporting our students and staff.”
Your donation will support the student journalists of Green High School. Your contribution will allow us to purchase licensing, equipment, software, and cover our annual website hosting costs.
