Most Anticipated Movies of 2023
Ever since Covid 19 hit back in 2020, movie theaters have become a less populated attraction. However, 2023 might just be the year to bring back going to theaters rather than staying home and watching movies on other streaming services. 2023 is a popular year for not only continuations of franchises, but also new and exciting movies. Here are only a fraction of the many most anticipated movies coming to theaters this year.
A follow up to the award- winning Spiderman: Into the Spider-Verse will be released this June 2. “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse” is a Sony Animation film. It will be made in two parts because Phil Lord and Chris Miller, the writers of the movie, revealed that when they wrote the story, they came to the conclusion that it was too much for a single film. Part two will be called “Beyond the Spider-Verse”. Cloe Gardner, a sophomore here at GHS, is excited to see the release of this movie.
“I’ve been a marvel fan for quite some time now and Spider-man has always been a favorite of mine. The animation isn’t as good as the live version, but I’m still thrilled to watch the rest of the animation,” said Gardner.
“Spider-Man: Across the Spider-verse” is not the only addition to the Marvel Franchise coming out this year. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3 is releasing in theaters this May 5. This film will be the third and final movie of the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise.
What’s your favorite scary movie? If by chance it’s “Scream” then you will be excited to hear about the new upcoming addition coming to theaters this March. This film series, created by Kevin Williamson, has grossed over $740 million worldwide box-office receipts, and they project that this movie will immensely increase that. Avery Roach, a sophomore at GHS, has been a long time fan of this franchise.
“I’ve been watching the Scream movies for a while now. I watched Scream 5 in theaters when it came out last January and I just remember the audience being so into it so I just can’t wait to see Scream 6 in theaters,” said Roach.
“Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny” will be the fifth installment of the Indiana Jones film series. Harrison Ford will be back at it again and star as Indiana Jones for the fifth time in his career. This movie will be a sequel to “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull”. It will also be a standalone film so no previous knowledge of this franchise is needed inorder to watch and enjoy this movie.
A popular childhood animated film, “Barbie”, is now coming to life this upcoming July. The storyline is being kept under wraps but what fans do know is that a doll living in ‘Barbieland’ is being kicked out for not being perfect enough, so she sets out on an adventure into the real world. The cast of this film includes a great number of well-known actors such as Ryan Gosling as Ken, Margot Robbie starring as Barbie, and many more. There is already a bunch of hype building up for this film, especially on social media apps. Tiktok edits have already been flowing all over the ‘For You’ page ever since the trailer was released. Emily Graham, a sophomore at GHS, believes that this film will become a big hit.
“Our generation grew up playing with dolls and watching Barbie movies, so I think that they will want to see the animations being taken a step forward and want to go to theaters to see the real-life version,” Graham said.
