Food recalls happen often with hundreds reported annually, and this time it has to deal with dairy. The latest food recalls are about grated cheese, so watch out. Multiple types of cheese are in the center of this recall including a mozzarella and multi-cheese blends, and other brands that sell grated Pecorino Romano.
One of the cheese companies, Great Lakes Cheese, which is based in the one and only Ohio, voluntarily recalled over a dozen of their shredded cheese back in October due to the fact it might contain metal. More recently, as of this week, the cheese recall became even more concerning when it became a Class II, the second highest recall. This means that it is more dangerous and people should not be buying the cheese. It also means that it would cause, “temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences.” So eating this cheese is a bigger health concern.
The cheeses affected by this were sold into many popular stores and retailers like Target, Walmart, and Aldi. Furthermore, even though the company is based in Ohio, these cheeses have been distributed into 31 states across America.
Furthermore, the other cheese company, Ambriola Company, based in New Jersey, has faced its own recall in their dairy product. During their routine testing of the multitude of products they sell, they found listeria, a bacteria that causes life-threatening infections. Nothing has been reported yet with people contracting it from the grated cheese that they sell, but Ambriola Company is still recalling it as a precaution. This company’s cheeses are sold in stores including Walmart and Sam’s Club.
So if someone were to come in contact with this cheese that has expiration dates ranging from February to May 2026 that is part of this company, make sure to throw it out right away and or even return it for a refund. If it were consumed, and symptoms such as fever, headaches, stiff neck or anything of that kind start to occur within two weeks of consuming it, there could be chances of listeria infection. So, always check the cheese that is brought, and don’t forget to look to see what is recalled from time to time in case it’s something regularly brought.
