I just didn’t think it was that breathtaking. “The Dark Knight”, directed by Christopher Nolan, was a great movie; however, it comes in at number 3 all time on the IMDB top 100 which I just can’t get behind. Obviously, the story is great and includes amazing characters, but I just felt like I probably could pick out three movies I enjoyed more.
The good things were good, I love the plot and the performances by individual actors were phenomenal. Although it’s commonly raved about, the performance by Heath Ledger (rest in peace) as the Joker was brilliant and lived up to all of the great things I have heard. Christian Bale, another amazing actor, was great as the Batman; however, this is a personal thing, but I absolutely despise the voice of Batman when he is in the suit. Even with these two amazing performances I thought Aaron Eckhart’s performance as Harvey Dent was on par or even better than the one of Heath Ledger (sorry!).
I don’t really have many negatives or any at all about the movie, but if I had to choose any it would be the minor difficulty of following the story at the start. It was a little difficult to make out the relations of some characters with Bruce Wayne’s constant shifting between himself and the Batman, specifically, I thought it was a little confusing on his relationship with Rachel.
Furthermore, the morality of Batman and Bruce being questioned throughout the story was a little hard to follow because at the end of the day he is the Batman. Although, I get it is for the story and the plot, but it definitely undermined his strength and made him seem level with the rest of the characters.
Overall, the movie was great, but I think it is a little overrated (could just be me) and I was not left in awe at the end. The filming production and scenery was amazing along with the great performances, but I do not think all of the small details in the movie were as amazing as some others I have seen.
