Costco, many people’s favorite warehouse club, offers discounts on thousands of items inside of their giant stores that have gotten into some tricky trouble recently with heated socks that they sold.
The socks are from a brand called 32 degrees, and on April 23, 2026 they were linked to more than a dozen first and second degree burns. They were recalled by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said that if the socks are worn “during high-intensity activities,” it can lead to burns, due to the heat and friction.
The socks were sold from August 2025 through March 2026 for $30-$46 depending on where one bought them. Their intended use was for keeping feet warm but under certain conditions, it turned dangerous for users.
The socks had a rechargeable battery that allowed the socks to be heated for about eight hours. Customers are being urged to return their socks as soon as possible and request a refund. Costco has also emailed members who bought the socks to notify them about the possible danger.
According to a report, more than 200,000 pairs of these heated socks were sold before the recall was announced, making this a widespread issue that is affecting many. Experts say that this recall should be a reminder to people to carefully read product warnings and instructions to ensure safety, especially when products involve heat, because it can lead to very serious injuries.
Costco’s quick response with notifying customers and issuing refunds shows how larger stores handle safety concerns. It does raise a question though; how thoroughly should products be tested before they are sold to the public?
