The owners of Clover & Bee Farm in Underhill, Vermont were expecting some baby sheep, but not as many as they ended up having. Typically a sheep can carry and give birth to about one or two sheep, at a time. While other animals can have more, it is common for sheep to not have very many.
Clover & Bee’s sheep in question has previously had quadruplets in her last pregnancy. So when she became pregnant again there was lots of speculation on how big of a pregnancy it could be. When their sheep was checked the results indicated that there were only two babies this time. The owners of Clover & Bee Farm speculated that she was having more than two due to her sheep’s large size. “When the big day came, the baby lambs seemed to have kept coming and coming”, the owner said. The Clover & Bee’s famous sheep had sextuplets this time.
Statistically depending on the environment and other births having six sheep in one batch is anywhere from a one in a 1000 chance to a one and a million chance. The owners shared that they have asked around and have been in contact with the Vermont Sheep & Goat Association and there has only been one other shepherd that has had a sheep give birth to so many.
The newest six sheep being brought into the farm brings the total to 21 sheep at the Clover & Bee Farm in Underhill, Vermont. They continue to take care of the sheep for wool and more. Will the sheep be all done with kids or will the sheep have 8 next since she went up by 2 from her last two births?
