The Masters Tournament has made a jump start this week with the first official day of the tournament beginning on April 9th. The Masters has a deep history with this major championship becoming the ninety second year that the Masters has been played. Every year the Masters has certain events that take place such as the Amateur dinner for all of the Amateurs playing in the tournament. There is also a dinner of champions when all of the former champions have a dinner a few days before the tournament where the former winner picks and decides what food will be on the menu.
Last year’s winner was Rory McIlroy when he completed the grand slam. Him and Justin Rose competed in a playoff where McIlroy won the tournament to complete his chase to win all four major championships. This year, a week before the Masters, Tiger Woods got into a vehicle accident and is not able to compete in the Masters like a lot of fans speculated that he would. Woods flipped his car in the past week driving under the influence of all the medication that he takes. He ruled himself out of the tournament a few days later stating that he needs to give himself time to recover.
During this year of the Masters, Sam Howell is an eighteen year old who is looking to leave his mark on the tournament. He received an invitation to compete in the tournament because he is the winner of the past year’s U.S amateur tournament where he dominated. Other players like Bryson DeChambeau, Patrick Reed and Cam Smith from the LIV golf league are looking to prove that they have the ability to win this golf tournament while DeChambeau is the leader of this group who has won twice on the LIV golf tour. The question is who can be the winner of the tournament? Who is trying to leave a mark to be great?
