Most people know by now that there is a war occurring in Iran. This has caused a lot of issues, but one of the main issues people focus on is prices, specifically, gas prices. Most people don’t realize how many things are being affected by these gas prices. It is causing producers to increase their own pricing. Amazon is facing these inflation costs. “Amazon announced a temporary 3.5% “fuel- and logistics-related surcharge” for third-party sellers that use their shipping and return services, going into effect later this month” (CNN). Since the fuel prices are rising, sellers are raising the prices for their products. The fuel prices are now affecting the cost of products.
Another major price inflation is with airlines. American Airlines is increasing the fees for checked bag items to manage the high fuel costs. So far, the pricing has gone up $10 for every item. This is causing a lot of travelers to get upset, and it’s causing chaos for airlines as well. Delta is another airline that has increased its prices by $10. This might not seem like a major difference, but if you have a lot of luggage or are always traveling, it adds up. JetBlue has increased its prices from $4 to $9 per checked bag. “Adding the fee for an optional service prevents the airline from raising overall fares,” a spokesperson told CNN in a statement. Southwest Airlines has also increased each bagged item by $10. The first bag went from $35 to $45, and the second went from $45 to $55. United has done the same as the rest of these airlines.
The US Postal Service is placing a temporary “surcharge” on packages. This will only apply to packages and not the daily mail service. The surcharge was said to be at 8% and will start April 26, 2026. It is said that this will be applied until at least January of 2027. Think about FedEx and UPS as well; these companies will all start to increase their pricing.
