The GLP-1 has been growing in popularity with many advertisements across social media and other platforms. With this, there is a bigger emphasis on weight loss and companies coming up with different ways to meet the demand.
The FDA (Food Drug Administration) has approved a new pill for the GLP-1 which was manufactured by the company Eli Lily. This pill will go alongside the other GLP-1 pill made by the other leading company to treat obesity Novo Nordisk. This will give people an option if they want to take the pill form or injection of both companies instead of picking from one company. With all this, it can have its benefits, but as always, there are drawbacks including the price and insurance.
Foundayo, the new pill took no time getting approved by the FDA to be released to the public. The agency claimed that it took only 50 days to get approved. What makes this pill different is that instead of using Zepbound’s main ingredient, which is an injection that Eli Lilly also created, they took a different ingredient, Orforglipron, to give the same results and is easier for the body to absorb in pill form.
Their main competitor, the Wegovy pill, uses peptides. Peptides are chains of amino acids. This is the same thing used in the injection they make. What makes Foundayo different from Wegovy’s pill is that people don’t have to take it on an empty stomach. On top of that, Wegovy only starts to work after fasting for 30 minutes afterwards.
Eli Lily’s data shows that this pill is effective for losing weight. One of the trials that the FDA looked at was one where when the patients took the highest dose of Foundayo, they lost 27.3 pounds compared to the placebo one where only 2.2 pounds was lost.
The pricing for this new pill is still cheaper than their injections which prices at $299 a month compared to Foundayo’s $149 a month. Regardless, this pill gives people a different option of choosing the type of medication they want to take that isn’t an injection.
