Black Friday shopping is a popular American tradition that stretches not only across stores country wide but also across the internet. Over the last few years, online Black Friday shopping has become more popular because it is more accessible to many people.
Black Friday shopping falls on the day after Thanksgiving. Stores generally open at 5 a.m. or even earlier. After that comes Cyber Monday that falls on the Monday after Thanksgiving as well. Famously known Amazon has the majority of their large sales on Cyber Monday.
There are benefits to Black Friday shopping as well as some negative aspects.
Many Americans find that there are a ton of economic benefits that come with shopping on this day. With large sales, people can save money on gifts they are planning on buying for Christmas. A problem in the past was the over-crowded stores. Now, with the rise of online shopping, those numbers have gone down drastically.
Also, stores make incredible profits. Even though they are selling everything at a lower price, they tend to sell a larger quantity of goods.
It is even proven that Black Friday shopping attracts more people than Disneyland does. Walmart alone attracted more than 22 million people last year.
On the other hand, Black Friday can get a little competitive. Oftentimes, the crowds can get aggressive and chaotic which can lead to fights or simply just endangerment of people in the atmosphere. Another negative impact of Black Friday shopping is overspending. Oftentimes, people feel the need to purchase more than they can afford due to the deals. Lastly, Black Friday shopping online produces more fast fashion consumption. This is due to the deals from online sites including Shein, Temu and many more.
Overall, Black Friday is a good time to get deals but are those deals worth the stress?
