As the fall sports season comes to an end, the turnaround for winter sports is just around the corner. One of the most exciting sports of the winter, wrestling, is returning to the limelight soon. The season begins on Saturday, December 6th, in the Tuslaw Duals Tournament and begins a long stretch of meets. After Tuslaw, the team will have a nine day break from competing; however, once their meet at Perry, the first Federal League matchup for the team, occurs on December 18th, they will have little rest before their meet the next day at Hoover on the 19th. After the meet at Hoover, they have a meet two days afternoon the 22nd of December. However, after that, they will be able to get some rest before their next meet, a Federal League matchup, against McKinley on January 8th.
The Bulldogs will attempt to make a run at the Federal League title having won just one match last season against McKinley. Majority of the team’s Federal League meets occur in the latter half of the season, so the team will be acclimated to the season up to that point.
“I have hope that we win a lot of individual matches, but it will be difficult to win duals with a bunch of holes in the lineup,” Joel Brink 27’ said.
The regular season runs until early February with their last meet happening on the 5th against Lake. After the regular season, the OHSAA state playoffs will start up. The team will compete in the second division of Ohio where multiple wrestlers will hope to perform well individually as well as with the team.
“Practice,” Brink 27’ said.
Last season did not end well for the team due to their abundance of losses, but a new year is ahead and the team will strive to improve upon their previous results moving forward.
