Week 11 in the National Football League has just passed and the Browns failed to win another inter-division game. Facing the Ravens in Cleveland, the Browns were leading going into the latter stages of the game, but ultimately fell short of winning as they couldn’t find a way to put points on the board and allowed the Ravens to comeback. The loss sees the team fall to a 2-8 record and be tied for the second least amount of wins in the entire league.
Unfortunately, the Browns have not seemed to find their franchise quarterback as Dillon Gabriel has looked subpar up to this point and suffered a head injury during the Ravens game. Consequently, Shadeur Sanders made his first appearance for the Browns due to the injury of Gabriel. However, he had a lackluster performance, producing the lowest quarterback rating by a quarterback in a single game in NFL history. Trading Joe Flacco, the starting quarterback going into the season, to Cincinnati has forced the Browns to play their rookies, regardless of if they are struggling or not. Despite the struggles, both active quarterbacks are rookies and have time to develop as they gather experience in the NFL.
On the other hand, former Defensive Player of the Year, Myles Garrett, has been on a terror this season with 22 tackles for loss, 15 of those being sacks, and has been a frontrunner for DPOY again. His continued dominance allows for the Browns to have a player to rely on in the defensive side, however, his efforts alone are not enough for the Browns to win games. Thus, sparking NFL fans to believe he should be traded to a contender in the offseason, although the Browns have squashed this belief previously.
Outside of Garrett, the Browns have built up a strong defensive unit rank as one of the top defenses in the NFL. Rookie linebacker Carson Schwesinger has emerged as a staple in the defense and seems to be worth every bit of the second round pick used on him. Defensive backs Denzel Ward and Grant Delpit have been mainstays in the defense for a few years and are allowing for the secondary to be successful this season.
As the Browns don’t seem to have a fighting chance to make the playoffs this year, fans are looking ahead to years to come. Fortunately for the Browns, they have two first round picks in the 2026 draft, so it is possible they bring in talented players for years to come.
“I have hope that we will be more competitive at some point during the decade and eventually win a superbowl in my lifetime,” said Thomas Zehner 26’.
