Some people view modern art as a joke. Think about back in 2019 when the banana taped to the wall was considered art and many could have viewed it as distinguished. Now, the latest art with hints of A.I. (artificial intelligence) has taken the market from the same fair that the banana piece, called Comedian first took flight.
Art Basel, one of the most expensive art fairs located in Miami, has a variety of works. Now, in its 23rd opening, this fair has a new piece that has gained some traction. A four legged robotic dog with realistic faces of billionaires like Jeff Bezos and Elon Musk. These art pieces trot around doing random motion in the little pen that they are stationed in. Occasionally, the dogs will go into what is called “poop mode” which is sprawled on a screen they have attached to their backs and art pieces will spew out of their backside. Like, the Andy Warhol dog, who spews out Picasso like paintings. It does this to represent how others perceive the world.
Created by Beeple, whose real name is Mike Winklemann, named this work “regular animals.” This piece is very unique as it incorporates many different art forms as the dogs spew out different art methods depending on which wealthy man it is. “They’re constantly taking pictures and reinterpreting the world through the lens of these different characters,” Winklemann explained in an interview.
Beeple is not new to making art pieces as he became well-known when he sold an NFT (nonfungible token) at its height going for 69.3 million dollars. Selling this piece made him jump to becoming one of the wealthiest artists at the time.
Even though his art among others can be difficult to see as art and more as a funky item, art pieces are on the rise according to UBS Art Market Report. It puts into perspective a well-known phrase, “one man’s trash is another man’s treasure.”
