The NCAA Division I women’s soccer national championship tournament has officially concluded, ending a competitive season that featured standout performances from teams across the country. Florida State captured the national title after defeating Stanford 1-0 in the championship match, while Ohio State’s women’s soccer team made a memorable run to the Elite Eight.
The national tournament featured 64 teams, including Ohio State, which entered the postseason determined to make an impact. The Buckeyes reached the Elite Eight for the first time in 15 years, marking one of the program’s most successful tournament runs in recent history. Along the way, Ohio State defeated higher-seeded opponents such as Notre Dame and Baylor, proving they could compete with top-ranked teams.
Several of Ohio State’s matches were tightly contested, with two games going into overtime. In both cases, the Buckeyes managed to come out on top, showing resilience and composure under pressure. Their postseason journey ended with a loss to Florida State, the eventual national champions.
Key players played a major role in Ohio State’s success. Defender Mirann Gacioch anchored the back line, helping limit scoring opportunities for opponents. Amanda Schluter provided offensive firepower, finishing the 2025 season with eight goals and four assists. Goalkeeper Molly Pritchard also made a significant impact and was named Big Ten Goalkeeper of the Year for her performance throughout the season.
In men’s college soccer, the Washington Huskies claimed the national championship by defeating NC State 3-2 in overtime. Ohio State’s men’s team, however, was eliminated in the first round after a loss to Marshall.
While the Buckeyes did not bring home a national title, Ohio State’s women’s soccer team demonstrated growth, determination and competitiveness that signal a promising future for the program.
