As the new year rolls around, the new colors of 2026 are shared. The idea of the color pallets in 2026 are all centered around colors that “nurture the soul.” 

All around the globe, paint designers are predicting the most popular colors to be featured inside homes. Some brands predict modern neutrals while others say this year will include vibrant hues. 

Aside from the color palettes that come out for the new year, Pantone Color Institute chooses one specific color to display as the color of the year. This year, they decided on a white shade known as, “Cloud Dancer.” They describe the color as a, “billowy, balanced white imbued with a feeling of serenity.” The color symbolizes new beginnings and a fresh start. 

Every year since 1999, the Pantone Color Institute’s experts sift through every color to decide what the next year will be represented by. In order to pick a color they take into account current cultural, political and various style designs.  

Another popular paint brand, Sherwin Williams, came out with their 2026 color: Universal Khaki. They describe it as a warm and earthy tone which symbolizes their “Tailored and Timeless” trend. 

The idea of the color of the year is to inspire people from all over. This carefully picked color demonstrates cleanliness and a fresh start which is what many people embrace in the new year. 

While various designers are placing their bets, others are questioning the purpose of the new year color trends. Research shows that color scheme trends for rooms in a home last up to 10 months before going out of style. Some think it makes more sense for one to pick a color that represents who they are and also colors that provide comfort to them.
