The mental and physical strain that sports put on someone’s body can be life changing.
One sport specifically, that involves a lot of physical activity comes with endless possibilities of injuries, competition cheerleading. This sport allows people to throw their bodies around in ways that do not seem possible at times. Staying healthy, in shape, and maintaining a good mindset contributes heavily to this sport.
Nutrition is a vital part of keeping bodies healthy. Under eating, along with over eating will eventually show in most sports. Competitive cheerleading is very demanding on an athlete’s body. These practices that athletes endure can be hours long, multiple days a week. With a poor diet, the athlete can break down physically and mentally. Eating carbohydrates are good options to conserve energy, such as spaghetti, or bread. An athlete should find a good balance with eating carbohydrates, eating enough but not an excessive amount. On the other hand, caffeinated drinks and or coffee can strike athletes’ eyes, but caffeine ultimately only gives energy for a short amount of time, until it eventually dies off instantly. Water is a must of every athlete’s diet. These conditions of an unhealthy diet can make chances of injuries increase significantly. It is important to be a healthy weight, maintaining muscle so cheerleaders can execute their skills to the best of their abilities.
To stay in shape, work has to be put in outside of specific cheer practice times. Going to the gym every once in a while, or frequently can help an athlete keep their endurance throughout the season. Drinking water outside of practice along with filling up on fruits and vegetables, as mentioned before, is crucial to an athlete’s body. Staying in shape can be difficult during the off season, but it is highly recommended from coaches.
Lastly, cheerleading is not for everyone, as it is a very spirited sport that needs a good mindset. Staying positive, productive, and hopeful as a cheerleader is necessary to have a successful season. Cheerleading does not seem like it can affect someone tremendously, but it is just as dangerous as any other sport, as it can put mental and physical strains on athletes.
