When February rolls around there are always two types of people: the ones who have someone to celebrate it with, and ones who don’t. This may cause people to not like Valentine’s day or even post videos dissing it. However, whatever side someone takes, we should implement a Valentine’s day themed party in high school. High school can be boring and people always complain, so having a day to celebrate something fun would make school better.
Our school has had so many snow days. I mean, we had three days off and for that to happen, we add extra school days in case we have to close. Our district is more than capable of giving up a day to do a valentines day party. Or if that doesn’t work, a teacher could easily block off a class period to do this.
The school can’t have Christmas parties or things because of religious reasons, but since Valentine’s day is a cultural holiday, more people can participate. Even better, we could just call it Palentine’s day, which is celebrating with your friends (or pal, hence the name Palentine’s day) so it doesn’t have to be about dating and having a significant other aspect of it.
With these parties, we would make boxes and cards to each other which will help build community in the classroom and interact with people we don’t talk to, or even know the names of. The box decorating is not only fun, but a good stress reliever in addition to getting free candy and trinkets. The nostalgia will also help make the parties a hit because we love to reminisce back to “the good old days”. I mean we have a trend wanting it to be 2016, so having a party will fulfill that younger, childish self.
People may think it’s cringe, but honestly it’s just a day to have fun, take a break from learning, and feel like a child again.
