After the winter storm, and our small break has finally come to an abrupt end, it is time for everyone to go back to their normal and well rested sleep schedules. It is very important for us to get enough sleep in order to remain in the best health and shape as we can. If you do not sleep well enough, you also play the risk of not eating well the next day. Sometimes, this may even result in craving carbs more than you usually would. If you do not rest, this will also affect other aspects of your life.
In addition to diet, another part of healthy living is working out. Getting enough sleep has many benefits such as helping heart health, growth, weight management, reducing injury risk, boost in attention span, and also a boost in memory and learning. It is recommended for teens to get 8-10 hours of sleep to feel well rested and seek all of the benefits listed above. There are some ways everyone can get the most out of their sleep. In turn, sleep and overall health can be improved with exercise.
Another tip for improving sleep is avoiding caffeine, especially before bed. You should also make sure you are not eating too much food. It is also important for us to get enough sleep because we will be well rested for the day and have enough energy to do the things we are required to do (e.g. school) and also the things we enjoy (e.g. sports, art, being with friends). It is also important to have enough energy as this can help with studying for tests or exams you may have coming up. Especially since it is closer to the end of the school year, performing your best on finals will make sure you have achieved your goals. Lots of students will start to lose their energy after winter break, but it is important to work through it and feel the multiple benefits in your life.
